BCL RECRUITMENT DRIVE FOR BONE MARROW DONOR REGISTRY

Brooklyn Creative League is proudly sponsoring an online recruitment drive for Be The Match, the national registry of bone marrow donors. (Before you say ‘no way’ — it’s not as bad as you think. See below!)

You can view a really informative video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEoJwcdV3BQ&feature=relmfu

When you’re ready to register, go to BCL’s team page: https://join.bethematch.org/bcl

From BCL’s Co-Founder Erin Carney:
“On a personal note, I first joined the bone marrow registry in 2011 when our daughter’s 7 year-old friend was diagnosed with a rare and incurable disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy, or ALD (this is the disease upon which the movie, Lorenzo’s Oil, is based). Aidan’s only hope for treatment was a bone marrow transplant. I had always assumed the process of donating was so painful and debilitating, that one would only donate bone marrow to a family member. My connection to Aidan inspired me to learn more about the process. I was surprised to learn how simple it is to register as a donor (I answered a bunch of questions about my ancestry and medical history, and they sent me a cheek-swab kit in the mail). I was even more astounded to learn what the donation process involves. It can be time consuming and may involve physical discomfort, but it’s by no means the horrific procedure I’d always imagined it to be. More importantly, these are pretty negligible trade-offs for the invaluable gift of a bone marrow donation.”

We hope you join us in registering!
